New Fiction to Publish in 2024
Stories and a poem by Scott Holleran to be featured in literary reviews and festivals
My stories are gaining an audience. Several tales go to press examining mysterious, dark and dystopian themes, usually with an accent on optimism. Besides new anthologies with my stories, new stories are either published or pending publication.
Among the accepted or published tales:
“Allegheny Lane,” the tale of a boy and his dog encountering a stranger, has been accepted for fall publication in an Ohio literary review. The theme: trust.
A literary review in Philadelphia accepted the transsexual-oriented “Beautiful are the Brave” for publication. My theme: self-recovery.
“The Corn Ball” has been accepted for publication in a literary journal “dedicated to showcasing unique perspectives, topics, and styles in literature and art.” This work of fiction forewarns against faith in environmentalism.
My 500-word story of an adult railroad passenger traveling with a child, “Escape from Indigena,” appears in the summer edition of New York City’s In Parentheses. The story, which unfolds in one-way monologue, explores the slave state.
“Deal With God” is featured in an anthology (Reaching the Dead End, March 2024). “His, Hers and Us” is also featured in a new romantic fiction collection (Flirtations, May 2024). See my author page; you can order the books directly from the publisher.
Additionally and incidentally, my dance proposal for improvised choreography by yours truly—performed by yours truly—to Taylor Swift’s April 19, 2024 album, is under consideration at a theater in New York City and the University of Denver. “Dance of the Tortured Poets Department,” the title for my proposed project and performance, is a work in progress.
On the subject of poetry, “Fathering Myself,” a poem I recently wrote, is featured in the Festival of Poetry by WILDSound Writing Festival, which tells “stories through film and conversation.” Readers can read, ‘like’ and comment on my poem here.
Summer Preview
When I launched the podcast this year, I wanted to create an outlet for reading my short stories. Happily, “Deal With God,” the first tale in this series, was picked up for publication in an anthology (Reaching the Dead End, Free Spirit Publisher; March 2024).
