When I launched the podcast this year, I wanted to create an outlet for reading my short stories. Happily, “Deal With God,” the first tale in this series, was picked up for publication in an anthology (Reaching the Dead End, Free Spirit Publisher; March 2024).
A second story, “His, Hers and Us,” the tale of a married, heterosexual couple whose bodies switch when the marriage goes flat, is also available for reading in a new fiction anthology (Flirtations, Free Spirit Publisher; May 2024) from the same publisher. See my author page here. Create an account on the publisher website and you can directly order the softcover books at a 10 percent discount with the REF_SH as a code—just select payment via Apple Pay or credit card in U.S. dollars and enter the coupon code REF_SH, which the publisher kindly extended to my readers.
A third short story, “Allegheny Lane,” about what a boy walking his dog learns about trust and potential danger from a stranger, is planned for publication in an Ohio literary review this fall. Recently, I finished writing “Strapped,” the story of a dancer seized by terrorists, fastened with a bomb and ordered to dance or die; the bomb will detonate, killing thousands of innocent lives, when he stops the dance.
The next Short Stories by Scott Holleran podcast, however, following the youth-themed “Runaway” and eco-dystopian “The Corn Ball,” is “The Blankies.” I’ll explain its impetus and origin, when the story—a darkly satirical awards show tale—debuts in a new episode in the next several weeks.
The podcast’s reserved for the paid subscriber, though all subscribers can sample or preview my fiction podcasting. I must admit that I did not anticipate that my fiction podcasting would coincide with first publication of my fiction in print.
