Write in Spring
A roundup and update from the author and storyteller
My newest fiction, “Honey Child,” which debuted in audio this month, premiered in Classic Chicago magazine to excellent review and ranking. My editor reports that the story did exceptionally well in readership. After reading the story, one reader wrote that “[t]he ending is wonderful and extremely powerful.” Read “Honey Child” for free without distraction on the Midwest media’s upgraded site.
Readers, Hemingway Foundation Praise Non-Fiction Writing
Recently, the Ernest Hemingway Foundation in suburban Chicago showcased and linked to my recent biographical article about the short story author, who died by suicide in 1961. Read the Hemingway Foundation report about my article.
With America retaliating against Iran for 47 years of non-stop acts of war, including ordering a writer to death—resulting in the 2022 assassination attempt on American Salman Rushdie—I wanted to write in support of the oppressed individual everywhere—in China, Cuba, Iran—so I wrote the essay which earned reader Bob Palin’s review pictured above, “For the New Individualist: A Message of Hope, Love and Selfishness,” for Capitalism Magazine.
My case for defense against the Islamic dictatorship, “Iran Gets Just Deserts,” also appears in the magazine. My writings featuring Iran as a setting, plot point or topic include “Sesame Flanagan,” a fable in which the title character, in love with a Moslem in Teheran, converts to Islam. Iran figures climactically into the plot of “Strapped,” my story about a dancer who’s attacked by terrorists.
“Strapped,” currently under consideration in Hollywood, climaxes with a military strike against Iran. Listen to me read “Strapped” aloud. (“Strapped,” which appears in my book, inspired my movie “Henry Dances.”)
