Today, I achieved a career milestone. Any author or new intellectual of my stature—far from famous—makes do with what audience comes along. To paraphrase Shakespeare in Hamlet, the writing’s the thing.
Now, mine’s a trifecta of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. All three writing forms have been accepted and published by a single source—a first in my career—by a literary journal founded by Phillipe Martin Chatelain, who serves as editor, in Boston, Massachusetts in 2011. In Parentheses, now based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, published “Escape from Indigena” a year ago today in the summer issue. My non-fiction tale of a daring skateboarder who zoomed past my 2020 walk during state-mandated public lockdown, “Prime Mover,” was published last fall.
Today, my poem about romantic love, resolve and resilience, “Christened Bliss,” debuts on page 21 of this year’s summer issue. My poem appearing in the print edition of a journal that’s previously published both my non-fiction and fiction marks a small milestone. This month’s been lucky for me; a year ago, my first poem, “Fathering Myself,” which I’d entered in a poetry contest, was published, and, a day later, my micro-fiction tale, “The Corn Ball,” was accepted for summertime publication in Gabby & Min’s Literary Journal. Additionally, WILDSound Writing Contest editor and founder for the Festival for Poetry chose my political poem, “The David,” for publication on July 13th. You can read “The David” here.
In five days, on 20 July 2025, I’m announcing an integral step. Stand by for news of what’s to come: another first-ever for my writing.
